Microsoft Monad
Lots of traffic this week regarding the PDC slide deck about Microsoft's new command shell. My reaction after reading through this whole stack was "so what?" It looks like they have created something of an interpreter for their C#/.NET environment, which allows you to whack out some quick scripts from the command line.
The one useful thing about this is that it nicely integrates various parts of Windows in an easy-to-automate fashion. But this is evolutionary, rather than revolutionary. You won't be able to do anything new the day after you install this stuff than you could the day before -- it's just (arguably) easier.
It's not even novel. The Clean team has already thought of all of this -- and in a more novel way.
